Find this Hilarious...Is it supposed to be?
I find "Lolita" to be very funny in spots. Is it supposed to be? Or is it just so dated? Let me know what you think?

shareOh, I didn't think it was dated at all. Hilarious though, more funny than Dr. Strangelove. Peter Sellers had me crying in a couple of scenes. And the bathtub scene is pretty damn funny too.

or more precisely it was about how sex used to be FUN
the new Lolita Haze [Angela Hayes] in American Beauty shows that in 40 years sex became a marketable commodity like a Big Mac and very serious
have you ever seen a Big Mac giggle?

I have just seen it and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was a comedy. The film has quite a reputation and I have seen many comments in print about it - but none of them mentioned how funny it was.
I can't be bothered with a signature
I think it was supposed to be funny. Stanley Kubrick knew EXACTLY what he was doing.
shareThere are parts where I laugh uproariously, like when Shelley Winters is trying to seduce James Mason or he stares lasciviously at Lolita's picture while making out with Shelley. At times this film is hilarious.
shareSince the themes couldn't be portrayed as the novel, the director found a way to tell the story the least objectable way.
If we can save humanity, we become the caretakers of the world
I find the film and the book hilarious in the way Humbert refers to Charlotte. I find it hilarious that he calls her an obnoxious cow and that he is basically repulsed by women. Of course, that's because he has an unhealthy obsession with nymphets. I find it funny nonetheless.
shareCharlotte. I find it hilarious that he calls her an obnoxious cow ...
Yes, it's certainly meant to be a black comedy. Executed brilliantly!
