Hamilton's italian

I never cared for him as an actor and yet I feel that i have to give him his due in this performance. He was likable and his posture as a young, horny Italian ( in love at first sight ) was typical of youths at that age...His Italian vocabulary was on the mark, being an American Italian myself. I enjoyed this movie on another level, memories of visiting Florence and in the very same Plaza where a small David statue is displayed, as the movie begins.

Funny, I feel the same about Hamilton. Never cared for him as an actor, but I quite liked him here.

Only... what do you mean by "small David statue"?
How big ARE you?!

He was good in a couple other movies (not that there aren't others): Crime and Punishment U.S.A. (actually his debut and a quirky curio of a film where he effectively channels to some degree Anthony Perkins, based--yes!--on the famed novel) and Your Cheatin' Heart (with The Tanned One portraying Hank Williams, Sr.).

I just want to say I'm in agreement about his performance here. The trivia section says he was a last minute replacement for James Darren in the role, considering which, whatever his limitations in other roles, he's pretty darn convincing to my American eyes and ears! He's always treated like a lightweight talent, but this performance, while not deep, took some skill to pull off so well.

I caught he was a young George Hamilton early but actually forgot about it after awhile -- I have this image of GH being this overly tanned actor who honestly doesn't seem like a good actor. Here he fell into the character very well -- he was very good as a giddy somewhat immature lovesick Italian.
