Where in Idlewild is the lodge where this was filmed? Was it a public business or just a movie set?
There is an amphitheatre where the fight was held. Any idea if the lodge or the area still exists as it was back then? Or is it all developed and built up??
My parents were good friends with people that owned a Motel in Idyllwild. It is a fairly small resort community in the Mountains west of Palm Springs. When this was filmed, a good number of residents were extras. They almost all were aware that Elvis was staying at a place called, " Hidden Lodge." It was another Motel in the area, noted for it's privacy. Nobody really cared that it was Elvis Presley there. They pretty much left him alone, and minded their own business. I do know that Elvis wandered around the small town, on his own, and felt really comfortable there and really appreciated that people left him alone. He was quite open and very friendly.
