I recently found the Hatari! soundtrack after years of hunting for it on CD. Gotta tell you I'm in heaven, one of the all time best, maybe Mancini's best. It's everything I remembered.

I'm kind of over QT these days, but I have to say he was the reason I took a second look at Hawks. I owe QT that much.

Sounds like Tarantino to me. I know he frequents a lot of video stores in LA. I guess that's where he got all his knowledge of Howard Hawks movies--as well as Preston Sturges, Brian De Palma, etc.

A little off-topic, but Steven Spielberg has affection for this movie, too. You can see its influence all over those dinosaur jeep chases in The Lost World Jurassic Park.

plwblj you are one lucky dude, I mean it! This movie is such an underrated gem from Howard Hawks, I can totally see how this and Rio Bravo influenced his sensibilities.

I just hope Tarantino never gets it into his mind to remake this film. He'll probably have the natives kill all the white people.

reply

Yeah, and I don't want to see Di Caprio in "Hatari!" either.
