Magnificent

This film has many sides to it;

it is definitely character driven : that's why i can watch it over & over;

what can one say about the music except it is :

1)extraordinary

2)beautiful in an exotic sense

3)memorable

4)evergreen-never stale !

5)tad nostalgic as one recalls the rise of Mancini-mania

all in all : what a movie !

It also made the Duke look like a normal person which he didn't do much of in the latter part of his career when he was in more contemporary settings.

His dialogue was a bit more relaxed than usual and seeing him walking around with a large glass of scotch and fooling around with "Dallas" was sort of atypical Wayne.

If he did much of his own stunts --must have used a double in some scenes-- he really enhanced the look and feel of the film. Much better than the standard 60's fare from JW.Director Hawks did a good job on a number of levels with this film.
