Well, actually Y E S !. Do a search ("Harakiri") at http://global.yesasia.com : $12.99 . It's not a great transfer but at present the only one available with English subtitles.

If you google "Seppuku dvd" you will find the far superior Japanese Shochiku Home Video version out there, alas with only Japanese subtitles

[edit]: I just noticed that YesAsia also have the Shochiku version. You will find it by doing a "Masaki Kobayashi" search: price $38.22 .

don't i wish! there really needs to be a dvd release of this great film

It's a shame really because this is one of the films I want to see most. I want to see as many of Mr. Nakadai's films and this one is regarded highly. Someday though, I will see it.
