please! need help with movie title..

I just watched seppuko thinking i´ve already started to watch it a year ago but I was mistaken about that. Besides being overwhelmed by this movie´s quality I still try to figure out what the other one was.

All I remember is a young samurai at some clans residence stumbled into some
important person in a hallway or something. The old guy feels disrespected
and things start to get complicated.

I´m not sure if that´s what really happened there.
I didn´t get very far into watching it
but it looked pretty interessting. I also remember it being dialogue heavy and over 2 hours long in black and white. I think the actor who plays the young samurai can be seen in sanjuro as the chamberlains daughters fiance.

It looks like the 47 Ronin story. There are several film versions of it.

Edit: No, its in color. May be the same story. The reviews all tell you its the feckin best movie ever made so I will try to get my hands on it as well...

The first one, by Mizoguchi, is in black and white.

Yeah it's a very polular story in japan.
They started to make films about it since the silent movies.
A bit like you find lots of versions of the Three Musquteers in the west, I guess.

the movie you are reminded of is "the hidden blade"
