Oversight by TCM's Robert Osborne

He does a fantastic job on his reviews before and after movies but he did make an oversight on this one that maybe he will correct when it is shown again. He mentioned four former, current and future tv stars that were in this movie as follows:

Chuck Connors - an obvious one who was a big star in The Rifleman.
Joe Higgins - not a major character in The Rifleman but he was in that series and was the bartender. He appears in this movie near the beginning as Mr. Kincaide who was a crooked cattleman.
Adam West as the sympathetic Lt. John Delahay who was to be in the hit series Batman.
Ross Martin as Mangus who was to be Artemus in the hit series in a few years called The Wild Wild West.

The one overlooked is Pat Conway who was in the great tv western series Tombstone Territory which ran in the late 50s to early 60s and he protrayed Sheriff Clay Holister in that series. He is the main villain in this one as Captain William Maynard. Strange he was overlooked as in the movie he had second billing.

Pat Conway's "performance" in this movie is an utter embarrassment. He spends most of his scenes smirking at the camera ala Snidely Whiplash, and playing the kind of villain one would expect to see in a 1915-era silent tying the poor heroine to the railroad tracks. When Adam West outacts you, you hardly deserve second billing, much less having Robert Osborne calling attention to your incredibly sorry "performance". Not that this is a great film by any means, but his presence is far worse than casting a blue-eyed Chuck Connors as Geronimo. Try as I may to overlook him, that smirking face shows up far too often to make his character even remotely believable. No real Army officer in the old West behaved like a gay Bond villain.

the movie was very good so why would you badmouth it? and chuck conners looked alot like a real indian so whats the big deal?

Realism, Remakes and Unnecessary Sequels are ruining movies!
