No. Remember, the male bank clerk, Dick, has asked her out, and the reason she's said no, is due to what's going on. From the conversation, you can tell they generally go out. In the book, they're more or less a couple.
Also, Ford's FBI agent has a girlfriend who works for the Bureau.

I didn't see it. Lee Remick was sexy, in an early-'60s kind of way, but Ford was just boring.
