That was the other part I liked in the film was that Lee Remick (Kelly sherwood) and Glenn Ford are obviously attracted to each other. And you
wonder if they did ever decide to go out together.

No. Remember, the male bank clerk, Dick, has asked her out, and the reason she's said no, is due to what's going on. From the conversation, you can tell they generally go out. In the book, they're more or less a couple.

Also, Ford's FBI agent has a girlfriend who works for the Bureau.

Kind of refreshing to a see a movie of this type that does ´not´ have some arbitrary romance tacked on.

I didn't see it. Lee Remick was sexy, in an early-'60s kind of way, but Ford was just boring.
