Kinda silly

It always make me laugh whenever these films feature undercover FBI agents posing as hotdog vendors, newspaper hawkers, etc. Seriously, what would have happened if the agent was suddenly needed for police work and he was in the middle of a hot dog sale?

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

He would drop his hotdog and go to work. Its not uncommon for real police or federal agents to pose as regular workers in a situation like that.

Are you saying the agents posed as hotdog vendors or newspaper hawkers on their leisure time?

You've heard the term "undercover" right?

It's all about being the Hot Dog Vendor, and the dedication to the craft. Homer Simpson had a vendor that followed him around, even at funerals {"Lady he's putting my kids through college!.")

FBI agent: "Serve your own damn hot dogs! I got business to take care of." (takes off)

Fling his weiner and fly the coop? I mean what's the big deal - he'd just switch gears and get on to what he's supposed to do.

And then there would be free franks for everyone. No losers here (except for the perp).

it's not silly for the agent to be undercover - I think your genius switch is "off."

What IS silly is they're following Kelly from a distance, follow her to the stadium, and suddenly there's one of their agents in a hot dog seller's outfit. Maybe he grabbed a vendor at the stadium and made him switch clothes, but this is one of those movies where there's a local FBI office full of guys who arent doing anything. They get a call which is cut off, but instead of assuming it's a crank call, start phoning everyone with her last name. They have a dozen agents that can stake out her house, follow her around, etc. because apparently there's no other crimes to investigate. At least they didnt all wear the same suits and hats (except the 2 guys sleeping in the car).
Oh, and only one switchboard operator who apparently works 24/7.
