shareI've seen both movies and it never occured to me to connect them other than movies set in foreign countries with the word divorce in the title. Le Divorce is sappy & French & really has a different story line than the wonderful Divorce-Italian Style. Le Divorce is part of a trilogy of novels by Diane Johnson. It's about an American who goes to France to visit her sister who goes through a divorce and how she gets involved with the French family etc. Divorce-I.S. is one man's fantasy about how he will get rid of his wife so he can pursue his very young cousin & how he carries that out. There is an interesting scene that has the -for that time- scandalous La Dolce Vita in it. Hope this helps.
shareThere is a difference, yes, but in Le Divorce, Kate Hudson is the young cousin being persued. It's two sisters instead of a brother and a sister. Those are the similarities i saw right off tha bat...
shareOh God... big difference - Divorce Italian Style was absolutely brilliant - I couldn't believe I was laughing so hard at a guy contemplating the thought of boiling his wife alive - amazing that such a black comedy managed to come off almost cute and delightful! On the other hand, Le Divorce was one of the worst films I've ever seen. For some reason I watched it while in the Bahamas with a friend, we waited to go to dinner until it finished, thinking... hoping... praying that it would somehow redeem itself at the end. It didn't. Awful. There was literally no point, the most random and frustrating of plots. (Only redeeming factor: Doing a double-take at Thomas Lennon's appearance - "is that the guy... from "Reno 911!"?!? And why is he not wearing short-shorts?")
