I first saw this film way back in about 1973 or so - at age 13, and it's still one of my favorites. I've had a chance to see it projected in 35mm 3 times through the years - the most memorable in Newport Beach, CA on a really giant screen as part of the Warner Brothers 75th Anniversary festival. My question is this: Does anybody besides me actually cry at the end of this movie? Shesh. I'm 47 now and I still can't get through this one without my eyes watering bigtime - it's always that final shot of Lee Remick that does it.......

Didn't cry, but I was affected internally. Such a sad ending, but realistic.

I did, then again, I've always been a sentimental person.

I cry my eyes out for the last 20 minutes or so of this film. The main reason I cry so hard is that I got sober in 1987 and I'm so grateful I don't have to do that to myself anymore. Also, its so sad when the husband has gotten sober and he has discovered a wonderful way to live and the one person he wants it for more than anyone else in the world is his wife. Its terribly sad to see her walk away, wondering whether she will ever get sober.

Another thing about this movie that makes me tear up is that it takes place when I was 7 years old and the clothes, furniture, music and other nice features of the film remind me of the way things were when I was a child.
