Ambitious Moive For Its Time

I saw this movie expecting a real hoot fest ala Giant Gila Monster, (which were packed together in a two VHS pack I recieved for for free) but I found it disturbing and relevent today, despite the cheesy Triffids fx. While the GGM was cheesy bad, TDOTT was cheesy good. One can see how this movie inspired later genre pictures like 28 Days Later. There were some goods scenes like the plane, ocean liner and train wreck that were quite effective in instigating a feeling of hopelessness and doom. I also like the side story of the scientist couple stuck in the lighthouse fighting off the triffids. However the secret weapon vs. thr triffids was a little trite. Bit I was pleasently surprised at this movie.
