Why didn't the couple in the lighthouse....

go blind? Why didn't they watch the meteor shower?

They were in the main, windowless center of the lighthouse deeply engaged in their work. She even suggests that the husband go out and watch the meteors (they've heard about the meteor shower on the radio) - but he refuses because he's bitter and depressed and doesn't want to bother - he dismisses it by joking that some tobacco company has lit up the sky as a gimmick to sell more cigarettes.

A bit late to this topic but did you know that all the lighthouse bits were filmed by another director after the film was finished to pad out the running time?

Which is weird because the lighthouse scenes are my favorite parts in the movie. Very good acting and some very creepy Triffid moments. Although I hated the husband's initial treatment of his wife.

Did they ever manage to get of the island?
That would not be a nice place if run out of food though guess they could fish but then they need fresh water to.
