I saw the remake a few years ago when I was watching all of Scorcese and De Niro's films. Now that I have seen the original of this, I realize that it is much better than the remake. A classic line that will never be reproduced to the same effect: "I got somethin' planned for your wife and kid that they ain't nevah gonna forget. They ain't nevah gonna forget it... and neither will you, Counselor! Nevah! "

Yes the remake didn't match the original at all but how many ever really do? Watch this one with the lights off. Add in the fantastic soundtrack and you'll realize how scary it was back in it's day and still is today. Definitely in my top 100 films. After my wife and I watched it a few weeks ago she had me laughing my ass off after the movie when she stated she had a surprise for me. I asked what it was and she said it was "somethin' you ain't nevah gonna forget" ;-)

Oh yes, this one is muuuuch better. The remake is more violent, but that doesn't make the remake better or scarier, it just makes it more violent.

shareI appreciate both equally. Although Scorsese's version is bloodier and more over-the-top, it's still an effective and well-crafted film in my book. Scorsese could have easily made it more akin to the original, but the final product made sense for its time.

i enjoyed Scorsese's version but this one hits with a little bit more force.
