The score by Bernard Herrmann is CLASSIC

Its a Bernard Herrmann score that is right up there with Herrmann's "Psycho" score for chills and power. Indeed, I think the credit music for Cape Fear is more "muscular and powerful in its creepiness" than Herrmann's nerve-jangling back-and-forth-jumpy credit music for Psycho.

Put another way: Herrmann's great thriller scores are all the ones he did for Hitchcock...and Cape Fear.
