Trampas

I've just read the novel The Virginian, and Trampas is the bad guy. Also, he's not a major character.

Does anyone know why the TV show changed that? Thanks.

I think they should put The Virginian on DVD. I would buy them and I know that there are alot of fans that feel the same as I do. If they can put Gunsmoke and Rawhide and others on DVD they can this show. I thought that Trampas was one of the main stars he was on the entire run of the show as well as James Drury. They was on from begining to end.

Your question and many others about the show are answered in a newly published book titled A History of Television's The Virginian: 1962-1971 by Paul Green with foreword by Frank Price. It is available by order only from online booksellers like Amazon.

I do not know if the question was answered. I am planning on buying that book as well. Trampass and the Virginian were the only two main characters to stay thru thr entire series run. The Sheriff and L.Q. Jones also remained the entire series, although they were supporting characters. All of the above were the good guys. When translating a book to a tv show, they usually change things around to make the transfer more smooth. I would assume they liked the character of Trampass and made him the good guy.
