The Virginian on DVD is here!!!!!!!!

On Tuesday March 2, 2010, Sam's Clubs began selling complete Season 1 and Season 2 sets of the Virginian. The dvd sets will not be available through any other retail source until May. Each volume is $19.98 for Season 1 Part 1, Season 1 Part 2, Season 2 Part 1 and Season 2 Part 2. Hours of western viewing enjoyment in Medicine Bow, Wyoming. And the color through remastering is wonderful. I can't wait for the rest of the seasons, especially Season 9, with The Men from Shiloh, with the great theme music by Enio Morricone.

Got it yesterday at Sam's; wasn't expecting it.

Positively giddy all day waiting to watch episode #1. Why?

Superb photography, writing, cast, and that Percy Faith score! Subtle references to their genre competition (Dem Ol' Cartwrights) were as charming as I remembered.

Long wait; perhaps the last long-running quality show from that era to make it to DVD, but at $40/season (30,75 minute shows) it is more than fairly priced!

What an era that was; what respect for dramatic presentation within the constraints of the medium! I'm glad I lived in that era, when families gathered to watch programs in their living rooms, and appreciative to have stuff this good back in my life again.

My thanks to those who made this happen!
