Any Aussie fans of 'The Virginian' here?

Just wondering, as there seems to be a few other nationalities who are fans of the show too. I only 'discovered' this series this year, and don't recall ever seeing it before. I've always loved Westerns, and this has to be one of the best ever. The 90min. format is great too, and gives each of the regular actors a chance to have a good storyline in different episodes. It's also been terrific to see actors like Bette Davis, Steve Cochran and Lee Marvin as guest stars.

We are very lucky to be able to see the show every Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Plus there's a repeat each of those days, 2 hours later, on another Fox Classic channel. I've noticed that a couple of Sundays they slipped in repeat episodes, but the one tomorrow sounds like a new one.

Yes,another one here in Melbourne,Victoria.
I am always uncalm when they slip up on their episode broadcasting,Fox Classics do that from time to time on other shows as well, like Combat...
Anyway, seeing 99% of the episodes is not too bad a score :-)
Happy New Year !!

Best Wishes
Noel.

Hi noel-joyce,

Great to hear from another Aussie fan of the 'V'. There was one episode from Season 2 which I was looking forward to seeing, as Gena Rowlands was the guest star, but for some reason we never got to see it. Her husband, John Cassavetes, guest stars in another episode in a future season, so I just hope we don't miss seeing that one. And what's with the random episodes they choose each weekend? I don't understand why we can't see the episodes in the correct running order, as we did with Season 1.

If you are interested in a terrific Virginian Forum there's one at
www.the-virginian.com

You can view it as a guest, but it's much better if you join as I did last August. Everyone there is very welcoming and friendly. There's almost 80 of us so far, and we are always looking for more members who are real fans of the series. The only other country that is screening 'The Virginian' at the moment is Ireland and there are quite a few Irish fans in the forum too. Some of them were lucky enough to meet James Drury when he visited there last year. Hope that you'll decide to join. Happy New Year to you too.

I am from Bronte, Sydney and discovered The Virginian on Cable TV and enjoy it, the stars make it for me. Would like to know why Lee J Cobb left?
Have always been a fan of Roberta Shore but seemed to have missed her final episode.

Will now look up the forum. Cheers!

Hello Suzanne,
The episode you are enquiring about, which was Roberta's (Betsy) final one,was titled "The Awakening"... S4 ep 5,and shown on Fox Classics 30/05/09.
Betsy got married in the episode..
Kind Regards
Noel.

It now plays every day on the free-to-air GEM channel (ch 9's 3rd HD digital channel).
Good part is that it plays straight after Wagon Train which starts at 6am. Bad part is that the episodes are out of order, & it starts at 7am.
But hey 2 & a half hours of westerns ain't too bad.

So interesting to know that American westerns are watched and enjoyed in other countries! Does Australia have in it's history any thing like the old western
culture here? (If that makes any sense. I realize that question is a little
disjointed but maybe you know what I mean.)

Life in 1800s Australia resembled America in a lot of ways, both being former British colonies & all. Australia also had 'gold rushes', & outlaws (called Bushrangers here) like Captain Moonlight, & Ned Kelly who is a national icon (even though he was hanged for killing policemen).
These days we have surfing, Macdonalds/Burger King/Subway/KFC, & lots of American theme parks. ;)
Typing this while watching The Virginian episode called The Gauntlet. :)

Is that the episode where the Virginian is injured and recuperates at a ranch
owned by a man with an unhappy but pretty wife and a much-in-need-of attention
young son? I have not visited your country but am more aware of your present
day culture than your historical. Didn't know there were so many similarities
i.e.gold rushes, "bushrangers" etc. How about cattle and "cowboys"? I know you
have a booming sheep industry and many large sheep ranches.

The largest cattle ranch on the planet is in Australia, it's about the size of France lol. Australia's beef exports feed half of Asia.

I just saw Quigley Down Under a few days ago & it was set in Australia about the time of the old west. As I recall there were references to Dodge City and Wild Bill Hickock.

Raylan Givens: I told him he's got 24 hours to get out of town or I'm gonna kill him.

Did you see 'Day of the Scorpion'? The accents are not very good, but the parallels between the American West and Australia have always intrigued me.
