Favorite ranch owner?

So far, Lee J. Cobb is my favorite. The whole serioes is being run on COZI-TV.

I'm watching on COZI as well, and really enjoying the show.

Each of the owners have their qualities, but my favorites are Clay and Holly Grainger.(John McIntire & Jeanette Nolan)

Jeanette Nolan as Holly, brought a mother's love and warmth to the show, which the younger gals who preceded her as female leads, hadn't yet cultivated. Clay Grainger's interaction with the ranch hands always seemed genuine and well-tempered.
Ms Nolan was superb in her role, and perhaps Clay and Holly's marriage in real life as John and Jeanette, assured the realism of the TV relationship.

I have to agree with you on Clay & Holly Grainger---they were my favorites too. I did like Judge Garth (Lee J. Cobb) and especially John Grainger (Charles Bickford) and his relationship with his grandchildren, Elizabeth (Sara Lane) and Stacy (Don Quine). I haven't seen the Stewart Granger ("The Men From Shiloh") episodes, so I can't really offer an opinion on his tenure, but I doubt that he could supplant Clay and Holly as my favorites...

I started watching it on cozi also. Then I decided I wanted to start from the beginning on the series and searched out utube, The Virginian Channel. Watched full episodes of seasons 1 & 2. Now on to season 3 on another channel posted by Carrie. I also purchased the book by Paul Green. I'm reading the chapters as i watch the different seasons. Why can't I find a modern man just like The Virginian? I can't decide who is the best/favorite ranch owner. Love them all for all of their different qualities.

I'd have to say i liked the character of John Grainger (Charles Bicford) and the relationship he had with his grandchildren and with The Virginian and Trampass. Unfortunately he surprisingly passed away in 1967 or maybe his popularity may have risen as the Shiloh ranch owner.
