Did Clu Gallagher start as Emmett? How was he chosen and did the episode that aired today make him one they chose.

Season 3 Episode 1 titled "Ryker"
Ryker wants to shed his reputation as a hired gun but faces a murder charge and a former partner.
This episode introduces Clu Gallagher as Ryker.

In Season 2 Episode 9, Titled " Run Quiet" Clu Gallagher played a deaf ranch hand but he started as Ryker until season 3.
