Christopher Reeve Interview

How sad is this?

I watched the whole thing with my mouth open, only stopping to say "Wow," four or five times. Perhaps it was just his time to go just 10 years later. He seemed to really enjoy life, at least at the time of this interview.

It was so eerie and sad! Telling a story about being on a runaway horse.

It was kind of funny hearing him give props to an unknown Morgan Freeman.

I'm going to guess he was on promoting Street Smart which was a film that bombed but Morgan Freeman pretty much stole the movie and even got an Oscar nomination.

Reeve is a reporter assigned to do a story on prostitution, but failing to come up with a compelling story, makes up one about an evil pimp. Unfortunately the story he makes up is a little too close to the truth and the real pimp (Freeman) comes after him. Definitely worth a look.

reply

Yes, he was talking about Street Smart, which was just about to be released when this episode aired.

They filmed scenes of the movie on the streets of New York and he said people walked up to him between takes and asked him if he was "scared working with that pimp".

He told them he was actually a classically trained actor, Morgan Freeman, and not a real pimp.

I like the way Reeve had no ego - he out and out said on the interview that Freeman totally steals the movie, he spent his time talking about the movie by building up Morgan Freeman. Christopher Reeve seemed like a genuinely humble nice guy.

reply

Yeah, that was heavy and prophetic. Sounds like Reeve was always crazy accident prone too.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

I thought the very same thing about how errie and surreal it was. It made me very sad. :(
