Carson > Fallon

I posted this on Johnny's board a few weeks ago, but that one doesn't see too much traffic. Re-posting it here:

When Carson comes to Antenna TV in January, watch his delivery closely. Then compare it to Fallon, who mumbles half of his sentences. Carson truly had a stage presence.

The content of the current Tonight Show seems so incredibly dumbed-down. I just don't find anything funny about seeing the guests and hosts mouths swapped when they talk.

The thank-you note and hashtag segments are funny enough and I always liked Fallon's Neil Young impression but not enough to watch the show consistently.

Johnny would sit down and have a real conversation with his guests. Sure, they were usually there to sell a book or promote a movie, but Johnny made the segment interesting (and quite often very entertaining). The other night I saw a 1974 episode that had Charlton Heston in it, and I thought it was great.

Jimmy plays silly party games with his guests and they all act like a bunch of kids. To be fair, however, today's celebrities are very lacking in both talent and social graces, so he can't really do a good interview with many of them. Few, if any, have anything of substance to share with the world.
