Ebert knocks other guest's brother's film's advertising

Just the other night, Ebert blasted mis-quoting in film advertisements and used his review of The Last Boy Scout as an example of this. That film was co-written and starred Damon Wayans, brother to Keenan Ivory Wayans. Keenan was sitting just a few feet away from them on the couch that night but no reference to this connection was made.

Ebert did give the film 3/4 stars, but had some damning praise of the film regarding the pandering to audiences who have very low or no expectations and that being a key to the film's success.

Just something I quickly noticed when the film was mentioned.

No, not the mind probe!

This reminds me (a lot) of the time Gene Siskel was on with George Segal. Siskel had been routinely savaging anything Segal was in. As you might imagine, the two did not speak, nor even acknowledge each other.

Seriously, if we're going to bring up Siskel and Ebert trashing movies on Carson, nothing will ever top them talking about what a letdown Three Amigos! was while Chevy Chase was sitting right there next to them. And he clearly wasn't taking it well.

Segal was okay in the sixties early in his career with stuff like The Quiller Memorandum and King Rat. But, yeah, he really didn't have the chops as a lead and his best role was a supporting character in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? against the likes of Burton and Taylor.
