The Swallows of Capistrano
Carson mentions this at least once a week. Is there more to meets the eye. Was it an in-joke or buzz word?

shareNo, just a common reference. It helps that the words themselves are funny.

The Swallows of Capistrano were referenced in a very popular song from the 40s and 50s that was heavily covered.
It was also a line that Carson's idol Jack Benny liked to use when he'd perform intentionally bad songs on his radio show.
It's something audiences in the 70s and 80s might get that is pretty much lost now.
