Any episode of "The Tonight Show" that originally aired before December 29, 1975 is guaranteed to contain at least one reference to Euell Gibbons. It's usually some sort of gag involving Euell eating a chair or some other non-food item. The crowd rarely erupts in laughter. I imagine even less people laugh now.

Maude seemed to reference him too.

With the 70's episodes on Carson, and other shows from the era, they really enjoyed referencing the same few people a lot. Billy Barty, Howard Hughes and Howard Cosell were also beat to death. Such an icky decade towards the end.
