Carrie Fisher part 2
JC; 'Who did you hang out with as kids?"
CF: "Studio heads children, and um, you know, Dean Martins children kids like that."
JC: ' Somebody told me you were not allowed to get dirty."
CF;' No, we were photographed a lot, we were allowed to, once a week, we were let loose on the gutter, and then, we could get dirty. which was a big thrill of us, which was one of the reasons i went into show business, i visited the set and watched my Mother fall in mud and stuff and i thought ...well, there's a way to do it." laughs
JC: " Was it the demands of having to take a photograph all the time.."
CF: 'Yes, there are more photographs of me, and i had a horror of it, i grew up on a movie star map. I can still get traumatized by it, those still photos with the white lights going off. I was in 'Modern Screen' at 2 hours old and it wasn't even a good picture.." laughs
JC: ' You were aware that they didn't get you're good side."
JC: Talks about Return of the Jedi. " somebody told me you felt awkward coming here to talk about this picture."
Its obvious she doesnt have too much more to say about a movie that at the time was the biggest hyped thing of all time, so Johny jumps to " I always ask everybody who comes here -what's the worst movie you ever made?"
CF; " Usually for me is when the experience of making it isn't so much fun, i didn't have so much fun making " Under the Rainbow."
JC: "When you are doing pictures like Star Wars and so forth, you don't see everything that is going on around you , because a lot of that stuff is done later."
CF: " They just say: There is going to be a giant horrible monster with mucous falling from its face," does a fake shriek
JC: " that's a little difficult, because .."
CF: " i started doing the films when i was 19 years old, so its sort of like thats one of my specialties."
JC: " Reacting too..."
CF: " Something thats not there. i have trouble reacting to the things that are THERE now, i am so use to reacting to things that are not there." begins to feel around, and ends up touching Johny's arm.
JC: " I am reacting to things that are not there, now."
JC:" We have a film clip."
CF: " I think this is a scene with one of the Ewoks, sort of Teddie Bear people, that kill storm troopers...mean, affective Teddie Bears."
They show the clip. Now a lot of Star wars fans absolutely hate the Ewoks, and for the very reason Carrie brings up, they are Teddie Bears that kill people, we just didn't need that in our lives. i think Lucas ever greedy as he is, thought the Ewoks were going to be a big thing, there would be EWOK TV shows, and merchandising galore, every one would want a EWOK, but everybody hated them. And they really hurt the movie, bringing it to grinding halt.
but its a cute clip, one of the few cute EWOK scenes, with Leia trying to make friends with the EWOK who finds her, when he isn't trying to run her through with his spear. She feeds it some food from her pouch and he takes a liking to her.
JC: 'You mentioned you got into Star Wars when you were 19, were you afraid you were going to get type cast as as Princess Leia/"
Cf: " I figure, if that happens i can just go on playing Princesses, Princess Margaret in a movie of the week, .."
JC; 'They probably know you all over the world ..all these pictures are World Wide.."
CF; ' If i went around as princess Leai, if i went around with the" makes a motion to denote Leai iconic hair buns "or wore that silly hat or walked around with a little furry creature..yeah."
one of the ironic interesting things about this show is that Gary Shandling is the next guest, Gary and Carrie sit side by side and interact, Shandling would die in March of 2016, of a Heart problem, Carrie would die in December of 2016 of a similar medical emergency. Two people who would die way too young, two very shocking deaths. In a year that had way too many of them.
