A Priceless Episode

Just finished watching "The Art Collectors" late this afternoon and really enjoyed it! Had seen it only once before, over a year ago, during BBCAmerica's limited airing of the series. I preserved several episodes from those airings for futue viewings, and this is the first one I've gone back to since then. "Colectors" just happened to be the first episode on the particular tape I popped into my VCR. I had a few days off from work over this past Easter weekend and wanted to reconnect with Simon Templar and "The Saint". This is the only one I've rewatched so far, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching "Collectors" today. I didn't recall hardly any of the plot details so it was like seeing it for the first time. I had only watched the original BBCAmerica airings one time while recording them. As mentioned, though, I only preserved some of them, alhtough a fair amount. I'm glad I did because I knew the series could disappear at any moment, and it has yet to return on BBCAmerica or anywhere else. "Collectors" has all the elements--Simon in elegant surroundings, involved with a beautiful woman, and a typically great and involving plot, with a number of surprise twists and turns. Any other fans of this neat episode? Just wanted to mention how much I enjoyed seeing "The Saint" again today, with "Collectors" being an especially good re-introduction and re-connection. I can't wait to see more of the episodes I preserved on tape and to check out The Saint Forum I've learned about from this site tonight.

We started renting The Saint from NetFlix last year and have really been enjoying the series. Didn't realize the "Early Episodes" (black and white ones) were a separate listing, so essentially started mid-stream. Have only two DVDs left of the Early Episodes and have enjoyed them all. In fact, we purchased a set containing one of the movie-type episodes -- "The Fiction Makers" -- as it was one of the most entertaining movies we've ever seen (and is the best non-Bond Bond spoof we've ever seen!). Great music, brilliant story, and just downright fun. Amazed we never saw it before (perhaps the rights to it as a stand-alone movie don't exist?) Roger Moore always came across as classy, witty, and a great role-model throughout the series - all the while being extremely entertaining. Only wish there were more.

Unfortunately, not all the Early episodes were put on DVD. I used to write letters and emails and beg for the rest, which apparently are available in the UK, but it seems A&E had/has a stranglehold on them in the US. And when A&E decided to go lowbrow with Dog the Bounty Hunter and similar garbage any hope of us getting the rest of the old b/w episodes went down the drain.
