I grew up watching French TV stations with their dubbed versions of great series. But dubbing a movie should be illegal. It kills the movie!

Well it depends...
If it's well done, I have no problem with it... For example; I usually watch American films French dubbed because usually it's well done (nowadays). But I always watch Japanese anime and Chinese and Korean films subtitled because dubbing is usually of poor quality. It depends on the culture and what you were used to.
I rather enjoy watching the odd episode of "Le Saint" as I have a French boxset of the later black and white episodes. I can understand on average about one word in ten (occasionally consecutively) but I like Bertrand's voice.
