Diamonds, unfinished novel and man caught in railway line points

I remember, as a young boy in the mid 1960's, seeing an episode of 'The Saint' which I have often wished to view again - but it has NEVER been repeated.

The storyline involves some lost diamonds which are eventually found in the gravel at the bottom of an aquarium owned by an authoress who has an unfinished novel for which she could not think of an ending.

The hair raising finale involves the villain being chased by Roger Moore across a network of busy railway tracks and the villain's foot becoming locked in the points at a junction just before a steam hauled passenger express train emerges, killing him outright in its path.

As I say, I have never again seen the episode and would really love to do so but I am guessing that it may have been 'wiped'.......

Does anyone have any idea what it is entitled, when it was originally transmitted and whether or not it still exists?

Many thanks

You can view the episode if you have one of the recent DVD releases of the black and white series. It is called "The Contract" and guest stars Dick Haymes and Robert Hutton. Elizabeth Weaver plays the author.

Yeah, I have every single Roger Moore episode on tape (from at least 3 different channels, NOBODY around here was running all of them), and that one I saw just a couple weeks ago (having taped it sometime in the mid-80's, probably off Channel 9-- or was it 11-- in the NYC area).

It inspired me to read up on Dick Haymes, who I feel sure my Dad knew more about than I did. None of the songs he was known for I'd ever heard of (unless I just don't know the names), and I usually have heard of SOMETHING by someone. The part of his bio about his having so many divorces and his "life being completely ruined" was kinda sad, but why do people do that sort of thing? It's no wonder he looked so burnt out in that SAINT episode.
