Roger Moore Terrific Saint ! Terrific Bond !

There was no other actor save Sean Connery that could have played James Bond well enough to save the franchise as Roger Moore did... After watching a few of the Saint episodes , which I had never seen until recently, I see a Character that not only was a fine spy type but rivaled Connery at every turn. If Moore would have gotten the Bond job as he almost did in 1962, the series would have been just as successful as Connery... When Zi hear Big mouths call him Bond light anymore I will tell them to watch the Saint and maybe they'll discover as I did, Moore is a superlative Saint and equally as masterful as Bond... Now my favorite Bond is not just Sean Connery, its a tie for best with Roger Moore!!!

Connery and Moore share one thing: A dominating presence. A way of standing and moving that makes them a natural center in the room.

There aren't that many actors I know who do that: David Tennant, Anthony Head,Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen.

But personally, I felt he was the wrong "fit" for James Bond. The Bond I imagined from the books should have more grit to him. But that's just me.

It`s far easier to start a war than to end one.

For me personally, Connery will always be the definitive Bond; Moore will always be the definitive Saint.

Absolutely agree. Moore as Bond was unwatchable for me but as The Saint he was tops. The problem for me was Moore, by his own admission, thought the whole Bond thing was absurd so he played it as a parody. Connery & the other actors played Bond as a legitimate character, even as out there as some plot lines were.

I agree with the OP.

And I slightly prefer Moore over Connery as James Bond, but they were both fantastic.

Since them, I have not been too impressed by any of the subsequent actors to play the role.
