Was Simon Templar ever knocked out?

I heard that the author of the books gave as a stipulation for the TV show that Simon Templar could never be badly injured. But what about mildly injured? Say, the common practice in detective shows of the main character getting knocked out but not really being too much the worse for wear for it. (Okay, not realistic, but eh.) It's admittedly hard to imagine the clever and crafty Simon being knocked out by anyone, but since it happens to so many of the best, did it ever happen to him?

I can now answer my own question. Simon is briefly knocked out in The Inescapable Word. Any other instances?

LOL, The Man Who Liked Lions. Certainly one of the strangest episodes, but a lot of fun. And knockouts ... oh man. First poor Simon gets clonked on the head by his friend, who was really trying to hit a crook. Later Simon drinks some drugged wine.

Simon is chloroformed in The Persistent Patriots. Later, they try to do it again and he fakes being knocked out by it.

Priceless dialogue:

Attacker: How to lose your halo in one easy lesson!
Simon **comes to life**: Lesson 2, when to hold your breath! **attacks.**

ROTFLOL.

Simon is clunked on the head in Vendetta for the Saint, when he is in the crypt.

Two knockouts: In The Counterfeit Countess, Simon is hit on the head with what looks like a mallet in the wine cellar. In The Art Collectors, Simon is whacked with a blackjack or something similar in the criminals' hideout.

reply

Simon is again hit with a blackjack on the train in A Double in Diamonds.

I have nothing to add, you seem to have a nice conversation with yourself :)

Coshed from behind by an Italian gangster in the second ever episode, "The Latin Touch."

reply

He was also attacked and knocked out in The Romantic Matron.

Another episode where Simon gets it is The Saint Plays With Fire.

No blah, blah, blah!

reply

He was drugged on the street (the old "knock-out powder in the fake cigarette" trick), in When Spring is Sprung.

reply

Try watching "The Wonderful War" He's laid out cold in a jail when someone tries to take something from his coat.

reply

He was also drugged in King of the Beggars.

reply

It just happened in The Art Collectors.

Really, having the hero knocked out is a bit of a cliche. In the series Mannix, poor Mike hit on the head once a week. When the character showed up years later on Diagnosis Murder as a patient of Dick Van Dyke's doctor/detective, I expected to hear that he was suffering from brain damage for all those clunks to the head. The writers gave him a heart condition instead.

I seem to remember Templar being pistol whipped (by Tony Booth) in one of my favourite episodes, The Rhine Maiden, after a brief tussle with Booth, Nigel Davenport and Victor Beaumont. They put him in a drawer (in the mortuary of a hospital). Great scene! Highly recommended episode.

He's always getting knocked out. It happens in about every other episode as far as I can tell.
