Universal and Dreamworks deal movie for 2006

This week, the two movie companies announced a plan for "The Jetsons" movie. It will be live-action (ala 1994's "The Flintstones") and not animated like the feature put out almost 15 years ago.

No cast has been signed but executives have ideas in mind. As of now, Tim Allen has been rumored as a top prospect for George and Annette Bening as his wife Jane.

They are also looking at Danny DeVito to fill Mr. Spacely's small shoes, Susan Ward as daught Judy, and James Garner as Cogswell.

I like the ideas for the male characters (especially Danny DeVito), but who is Susan Ward?
Anyone have a photo of her?

reply

Susan Ward is an actress/model. She's best known for playing the love interest on the soap opera 'Sunset Beach' in the late 90s, and she starred in her first movie a few years ago, an erotic thriller that was not successful at the box office. If you've seen her in anything, it'll probably be 'Shallow Hal' - she had a small role as the sexy neighbor.
Apart from those 2 movies, she's acted in a few straight-to-videos and she's famous for posing for men's magazines quite often.

I am delighted, because I was a big fan of hers on Sunset Beach (I love soaps almost as much as cartoons, lol) but I'm very surprised to hear she might be wanted by a big studio, because she has very little bigscreen experience and hasn't even acted in over a year. She is pretty much an unknown, and I would not expect them to cast unknowns in a movie like this, especially as the other actors as so famous.

Here are some photos of her. http://www.haywired.com/lovesusan1/index.html

Oh my. She is a very pretty girl, but I think she's too sexy to play Judy. I will reserve my judgement until I see her act. I'm sure she will look more Judy-like without the black hair and with some clothes on!
How old is she?

I read in a magazine that Brittney Spears was considered as well as Danny Daveto

what about Elroy?

Have you lot seen the Flintstones movies? I'd expect if you had, that you'd be praying they don't make a live action version of the Jetsons. This never works - it NEVER works, if they make a film , I guarantee it is absolutely awful. Enjoy it as a cartoon, there's no need for it to ever be anything else.

1) What magazine did you read this in?
2) Did it say what part that the are considering Britney for? Judy, perhaps?

Perhaps Susan could be cast as the villain's moll, like Halle Berry in "The Flintstones(1994)?"

I've always thought Tom Hanks would be a great George Jetson.
Now mind you i'm talking about Tom Hank back in the 80's!

Please no bashing me; when I say I think Ray Romano could make a good George jetson

She's hot, but they can't cast the young roles till they're sure the movie's going to be made soon... Judy in particular will have to be young and sexy... and no-one has a guarantee of staying young and sexy in Hollywood for over a year.

"Get rid of that bag ----- its diabolical."

reply

Hmm, I wouldn't like to see Susan as Judy....She's not particuarly a good actress, and meh.....I dunno...I'd rather a younger actress played her.

reply

Many may disagree with me, but here's the cast I'd like to see play the respective roles in the live action "Jetsons" movie:

Matthew Broderick.... George Jetson
Annette Bening.... Jane Jetson
Hillary Duff.... Judy Jetson
Angus T. Jones.... Elroy Jetson
Danny DeVito.... Mr. Cosmo S. Spacely
Rosie O'Donnell.... (voice).... Rosie the Robot
Dennis Farina.... Henry Orbit
Dan Aykroyd.... W.C. Cogswell
Kathy Bates.... Mrs. Starla Spacely
Frank Welker.... (voice).... Astro the dog

I think Matthew Broderick would be perfect for the role of George because Broderick's most famous character Ferris Bueller is a laid-back slacker just like George Jetson. That's enough to convince me Broderick is capable of pulling off the role of George.

The reason why I see the role of Judy Jetson going to either Britney Spears, Mandy Moore, Hillary Duff, or to some other female pop star is so Universal can try to reach today's teenage market. Universal cast pop singer Tiffany as the voice of Judy for the same reasons in 1990's theatrical-released animated "Jetsons:The Movie", and the investment did not pay off because Tiffany's star power had faded by the film's release in summer of 1990, and the movie had been delayed due to other various production problems along with the deaths of Mel Blanc and George O'Hanlon during filming. Unlike Tiffany, Britney Spears and Mandy Moore have both maintained strong staying power with the teenage market for the last several years, thus the investment would pay off for Universal this time around.

I know some of you may disagree with my picks and/or the rest of my post, and I respect your opinions.

Warner Bros.(who owns Hanna-Barbera, the producer of the series) SHOULD be the ones producing it. Why not just have Space Jam and Looney Tunes: Back in Action be by Universal and DreamWorks as well as other Warner Bros.-owned properties? Only WB will be making ANY Hanna-Barbera Productions-lated properties, Bright Eyes.
