I remember back in 1998, my dad told me that back when he was a kid in 1963, that they would have flying cars by the year 2000. Obviously that didn't happen but, what the hell has been stopping us from inventing flying cars????

Could be. But also technical and social planning that prevent its development. Some flying cars have been made but the technical problems and prohibited cost in producing them make them totally unreliable.
