Differences between 80s episodes and 60s episodes.

I finally saw one of the 1980s episodes of the show, and I got to admit, it wasn't half bad. I saw them as a kid, but as an adult I had forgotten them---I was only used to the 1960s episodes. The 80s episodes seem a little more kid oriented, but they're basically the same show. One thing I did hate however, was the change in animation. I think when the later episodes started airing, the animation was crisper and looked just like the 60s episodes---but eventually started sliding into the weird fluorescent and yellowish colors (for example, some of the character's skin colors are often yellow). But thats one minor gripe.

Well---the actors were 20 years older while filming the 80s episodes. George sounds alittle too high pitched, Jane sounds older, Judy sounds like she's imitating a teenage voice, Elroy sounds the same. Rosie sounds the same---but have you heard the same actress voice 80s Wilma Flintstone? Time was not good on that voice.

As for the animation, Im telling you---when they cut to the cheaply cut yellowish animation, it just looks really weird. So I agree with you there.

I remember reading that George's voice actor had suffered a stroke that left him blind and damaged his memory, so they had to spoon-feed him his dialogue and have him repeat it into the mic as fast as possible.

Anyhow, 80s episodes do tend to have brighter, crisper animation. Difference in budget and all that.

Being honest when i was a kid i somehow never seemed to recognize the difference but now that i'm older and have the DVDS, i'm really not sure how visually i missed the changes lol. I must have been too absorbed in the fun of the show.

In all honesty i think the 80s episodes have some really good ones that i always cite as favorites but overall i feel like the 60s ones were overall better.

I still enjoy both and some of my fave episodes do come from the 80s seasons but it does show surprisingly how they are products of their times.

I refuse to argue on IMDB until the general populous actually uses their brains

Many 1980s cartoons tend to go purple and pink. Legendary Nickelodeon "Ren and Stimpy" executive and producer John Kricfalusi worked on the show and used to recall on various occasions bringing in more colors into the show [look him up on any YouTube or video collections-he's on the credits].

Oh yeah. He hated Orbitty. An ET ripoff during the original heyday of ET.

The 1980s do seem more kid oriented, although some parents may not like certain things on the TV series such as when George (or somebody) told IDR who was a spy wearing a woman's costume to "just stand there and keep looking sexy". And even though by the 1980s it was a Saturday Morning Cartoon, it still tried to mimic a prime time sit-com. One example is that they started using a noticeable music score when showing the outside of a building between scenes.

I actually like the animation quality of the 1980s. They had made the futuristic appliances look even more futuristic. The backgounds became more consistent and expanded tremendously while in the 1980s episodes the background was more absent.

The colour quality of the 1980s cartoons, however, was extremely limited.
