A list of guest stars. Pretty impressive.

Guest stars appeared as additional squad members, French citizens or German soldiers. In the first season, the then little-known Ted Knight and Frank Gorshin made appearances.

Other notable guest stars included Lee Marvin, Robert Duvall, James Coburn, Bill Bixby, Dwayne Hickman, Telly Savalas, Luise Rainer, Charles Bronson, Richard Basehart, Eddie Albert, James Caan, Jeffrey Hunter, Leonard Nimoy, Terry Carter, Ben Cooper, Frankie Avalon, Dan Duryea, Sal Mineo, Neville Brand, Brandon De Wilde, Tab Hunter, Beau Bridges, John Cassavetes, Roddy McDowell, Walter Maslow, Mickey Rooney, Claudine Longet, James Whitmore, Dennis Hopper, Tom Skerritt, Harry Dean Stanton, Dennis Weaver, Keenan Wynn, Richard Jaeckel, Fernando Lamas, Ricardo Montalban, Claude Akins, Paul Burke, Warren Oates, Nick Adams, William Smithers, Joan Hackett, Jack Lord, Dean Stockwell, Jack Carter, and Chad Everett.

Hey Kitking,

You are absolutely right about the impressive list of guest stars. As you noted, some of them were not all that well known when they were guest stars, but very, very many well known stars wanted to appear on the show because the show had such a good reputation. Folks like Lee Marvin, Eddie Albert, James Whitmore, Sal Mineo, Mickey Rooney, and others were very big stars at the time, and they agreed to appear for the "scale" or "minimum wage" for actors. Being a guest star on Combat! at that time was something many actors wanted very much to do, and a lot of them said they had a lot of fun doing it.

Tom Skerritt was one of the "little known" actors who was in a half dozen episodes in smaller parts. Skerritt, of course, did very well for himself in the years since then. Robert Duvall was already a journeyman actor when he appeared in three episodes as the featured guest star between 1965 and 1967. In the years since then, I would say Duvall might be considered as one of if not the best to appear on the show.

It was an excellent show.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile
