The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-71) vs The Andy Griffith Show (1960-68)

which was funnier?

The funniest episodes of TAGS were funnier than the funniest episodes of TBH, but TAGS had a lot of drama thrown in (like when someone robs a bank and Andy automatically blames Opey). After Don left, it was no longer funny. So I'd say Beverly Hillbillies was funnier overall.

Overall, I’d say The Beverly Hillbillies was funnier, but that’s because it was intended to be, if that makes sense. The Andy Griffith Show, on the other hand, was unique because it could be (depending on the scripts and story-lines) either comedic or dramatic and still be entertaining. To compare the two is I think like sitting an apple alongside a pear. They’re in ways similar, but also different.

Plus TBH was a joke fueled show. Griffith said he wanted the humor to come from the characters rather than be jokey.

That's true. Otis and Floyd were my favorites I think. Howard McNear was an absolute genius!
