Bernstein and Sondheim in the closing credits

Why are their names (Bernstein for music, Sondheim for lyrics) shown twice-- once near the beginning of the credits sequence, and again near the end? I think Robbins and Wise may have been listed twice, too.

Were the credits that were shown in a standard (non-graffiti) font added after the original release?

Yeah, I noticed that too and thought it was odd. The only thing I could think was that they were referencing the original play and book so they were referencing them as producing the original source material.

Credit for the original stage production; credit for the screen production. Correct.

I'll buy that, though I can't think of any other movie (musical) I've seen that shows the names twice. One would think the credits in such a case might specify "for the stage" and then "for the screen", or some such wording. Or, hey, maybe they were just trying to be really, REALLY sure we'd remember who was responsible for the music and lyrics. As if we'd ever forget...

While I thought the fact that the credits in the end were turned into graffiti was interesting, and a very fitting end to a fabulous movie, I, too wondered why the very ending credits were shown written on regular street signs, in somewhat child-like hand-writing.

They are credited first for the film, then for the original stage production that this film comes from, which is why they got credited twice.
