Anybody notice the water?

Water Consumption
I noticed, throughout the movie, that there are little odds and ends of scenes showing the people using their water as if it were a normal day. For example, the fountains in New York. When the Admiral, Captain and secretary are dashing from the scene it's easy to see the excessively flowing fountains just outside the building. You'd think that if the world were "on fire" or engulfed in a drastic heat wave that they wouldn't want to try conserving their water in case drastic measures had to be taken.

Now this isn't to say that it wasn't thought over during production, I just think that if everything was ridiculously hot then you'd want to make sure you have enough water in your reserve so that you have a larger percent in the chance of surviving longer.

Maybe the water is pumped up from an underground well or spring. By not pumping it in to the fountains you aren't conserving it you're simply no longer pumping it to the surface.

I suppose. But maybe desalinization is perfected in this movie, so they don't have to worry about the water supply.

Sorry, this is just another example of Irwin Allen being Irwin Allen. No logic, no consistency, just stuff -- like the open aquarium that somehow doesn't spill out all its water when the sub maneuvers and has no protection against falling in, or Barbara Eden wearing high heels in a sub (she protested this to Allen, to no avail), or proceeding without sonar or radar and not posting anyone in the forward observation post to look for dangers like a minefield, or a radiation belt (which cannot burn) on fire in the airless vacuum of space...and on and on and on.

Relax and enjoy, but don't think.
