I'm a big fan of Joan Fontaine, and i am so glad she's in this great film. I found her performance to be quite good and very convincing. What do others think of Joan in this film? I'm glad they didn't make her some love starved flusy like Barbara Eden made out to be.

I totally agree. Her participation in this picture along with Walter Pidgeon definitely brought it up a notch or two. Also, I thought she looked pretty hot. But I'm a BIG fan! I'm only sorry she met such an untimely end. =Sniff!=

Actually, Joan Fontaine made this film before she made TENDER IS THE NIGHT, which was her next film, released in 1962, about seven months after VOYAGE. As to her performance here, she was very good, of course, but always hated this movie, thinking it beneath her talent (although I'm sure no one forced her into it at gunpoint, or even threatened her with a shark).
BTW, as of this posting (10/4/07), Joan Fontaine is on the cusp of her landmark 90th birthday, October 22. Have a happy one, Miss Fontaine...hope you and Olivia are getting along these days.
She was too old and badly handled by one of the worst directors to ever grace the Hollywood scene. At times, I thought I was watching Deborah Kerr, who also had aged badly but at least mostly appeared in classy productions to the end.

I know Irwin was all about efficiency when making a film and Voyage is no exception. There's not a wasted frame in this whirlwind of a pic. I've read it described as a "one damn thing after another" adventure and that's definitely true. If the film bogs down anywhere it's during the scuba sequence although that's just from a 2008 perspective, there was a lot of interest and awe about diving in 1961 and Irwin was just giving the audience what it wanted.

I didn't like her character because she was trying to kill Walter Pigeon.
