If anything, of course, it references LES DIABOLIQUES, and pre-refrences (?) HUSH...HUSH, SWEET CHARLOTTE.

Vague reference but I thought of Psycho in the scene with the stuffed bird in a room. Could also be when the girl enters the summer house and screams in horror at the sight of a seemingly dead person in a chair.
Seems like most thrillers of this era was somewhat inspired by Psycho.

Speaking of Psycho, check out this photo of Susan Strasberg but imagine she is a blond instead of brunette.

Well, you might not agree but I think she looks like a young Janet Leigh. Maybe its just the eyes.
