Lady for a Day vs Pocketful of Miracles

So, which is better?

Personally I thought Pocketful of Miracles was much better technically but Bette Davis was just too week in the part. May Robson was much better as Apple Annie in Lady for a Day (IMO). Pocketful of Miracles had more laughs but I thought it lost its flight a couple of times. The ending was also a little over the top in PoM with Judge Henry fainting. So I can't easily chose between them. They both have their Pros & Cons.

So, which one do you prefer?

I've yet to see "Lady for a Day," but one thing I noticed in "Miracles" was that Davis hardly had anything to do! For a film that was supposed to revolve around her, it didn't focus on her much. She did just fine with the part, I thought -- for one thing, she got the character's voice just right -- but she didn't have a lot to work with.

Judge Henry Blake did not faint at the end of the movie, he lost his footing and felt to the ground as the klan of Apple Annie's beggars pushed and trampled over him to get to the front of the line to wave goodbye to Louise and the others as the ship departed.

I'm watching Lady for a Day and I don't think I've seen the whole thing before. As I watch I realize what was lost in Pocket Full of Miracles. Lady was made during and about the Great Depression and affected the audience more directly than Pocket, its audience watching a film about a an era they hadn't experienced personally. In that context, Lady addresses issues that were timely and is about more than just helping an old woman.

Pocketful of Miracles is absolutely one of my favorite movies.

For viewing pleasure, Lady for a Day can't touch it
