Gothic Poe Music

A little tip to all of you who (like myself) appreciate the gothic feel in these old Edgar Allan Poe films (the cinematography, the settings, the music, the eerie mood and the overall gothic feel).
You should give the stylish concept album “Tales Of Mystery & Imagination (1976)” by the Alan Parsons Project a try.
This album is a very atmospheric as well and contains songs (both instrumental and with vocals) based on several of Poe’s most well known tales (“The Raven”, “Fall Of The House Of Usher” etc.).
The musicianship is first rate and the accompaniment booklet contains lyrics, Poe poems and very gothic and eerie black & white photographs that could easily have been lifted from these movies.
The music is symphonic and melodic 70’s rock, asides from the instrumental “Fall Of The House Of Usher part I - V” which could have been composed by film composers John Williams or Jerry Goldsmith.

This album was the debut for Alan Parsons Project (nine albums would follow) but they have never been able to repeat or surpass this achievement.
Alan Parsons was the man responsible for the sound on Pink Floyd’s legendary “Dark Side Of The Moon (1973)” album, and this Poe concept album can be seen as a bridge between “Dark Side..” and Jeff Wayne’s “War Of The Worlds (1978)”.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
