Eli Wallach's performance

Wallach's performance shouldn't get lost in all the praise for Gable and Monroe. Ritter was also pretty darn good in this, maybe just a notch or two below the three I've already mentioned.

As for Clift, I've never thought his performance was all that extraordinary. Good, solid, and at times terrific, but not in the class of the others.

In Mexico senor, these are the years of sadness.

For me at least, praise for Monty comes not necessarily from what he says and does, but the intensity of emotion that comes across without him saying a word. I'm specifically thinking of the scene at the phone booth.

Eli Wallach's performance was noisy and rowdy. Easier to do than something quietly and nuanced.

Life is never fair, and perhaps it is a good thing for most of us that it is not.

Clift's performance was outstanding. I am a fan of Monroe, but her performance here was not great. however, considering the amount of drugs she was apparently consuming, it is incredible she could stand up

I think everyone was extremely good in this film, and I think the film in general deserves more credit. For me, the good acting made the characters more realistic, and the acting is what made The Misfits so effective.

All five of the principal players were excellent, in my opinion, including Eli Wallach. He was sensational in "The Good, The Bad and The Ugly" - should have won an Oscar for that one.

I think Wallach should have been nominated for Supporting Actor.

Ritter was pretty darn good in everything. I think she was incapable of giving a bad performance. There was this hint of sadness and pain in all of her roles, even the comedies. Six Oscar nominations and not a win. Life's unfair.

I think everybody was sensational in this film, Monty, Marilyn, Gable and Wallach, but I agree that Thelma Ritter was brilliant in everything she did and she was fantastic and underrated in the misfits. It is such a shame and a mystery that she never won an Oscar. I love her in Rear Window too as Jimmy Stewarts nurse.

Im a big fan of Monroe and Gable, but Eli Wallach is probably the best actor in this movie. The others where big celebrities and good looking, Wallach was simply a good and very profesional actor, with one of the longest careers in history. Not many actors are still acting after the age of 90.

He sure looks good in a t-shirt.

People praise Monroes acting? She can't act for beeps sake. I mean she have been decent in a few films like Clash by Night where acting isn't really required and she's ok in comedies but she couldn't act. I thought most people counted that as a fact.

Gable was good though.

Wallach was the best thing about this film. Fabulous performance!

I agree...I thought her performance was not very good. She just seemed zonked out all the time, like she wasn't even there. I know the character is morose, but she seemed like she was walking around in a fog through the whole movie save the last 20 minutes.

I thought Gable was great, but I thought Wallach's performance was the best. His character was obviously supposed to be in the wrong (in not wanting to lift a finger unless she would go for him) but he was so good in making the pain and aggravation come across that I felt for him. I felt he didn't really mean to be so shallow at the end, it just sort of happened...and you could feel his anger with her for the rest of the picture. He was eager to sell those horses not just because it was his job and because he'd make money, BUT because she didn't want it done and she'd burned him. He played his desire for revenge beautifully.

Overall I liked the film quite a bit, BUT Marilyn Monroe's performance was one of the weak points.
