I love it. It takes a certain sensibility to enjoy, and those who didn't

can take their Star Wars and other studio-system action movies and earlier Monroe and Gable films and go somewhere else.

I'm surprised at the level of dislike on this board. The Misfits was a fascinating movie both for the milieu and characters it presented and for the mirrors it provided into its doomed stars.

Anyone who criticizes Monroe for coming off aimless in the role clearly didn't understand a single frame of this movie.

And anyone who thought this was boring, seriously, you must not watch very many old black-and-white or foreign films. Sure, the plot was pretty light, but it was always absorbing.

I agree. I saw it the other night too and I was really surprised by how good Gable was. I never thought of him as a serious actor but more of a movie star. If he wasn't nominated for an Oscar he certainly should have been.

Agreed. This film was written by a man with brains and best appreciated by an audience with brains.
Marilyn gives a performance with more depth, sensitivity and nuance than most of today's actresses
can't begin to summon.

I like my Star Wars and "studio-system" action movies.

But, I love The Misfits.
But, then again - I guess I'm a misfit too.

I wouldn't worry about the people who put it down.
They don't get it.
Maybe it's generational? maturity? a lack of understanding of the arts?
Let those who don't "get it" go. Maybe someday they will; or not - maybe I don't care that they are missing out on something really special.

The Misfits is not a very good movie in many ways.

But, oh baby, if you can see the forest for the trees - this is a fantastic work of art!!

Black and white at it's zenith.
Legendary John Ford.
Legendary Arthur Miller.
And - yes - a legendary cast.

A script filled with complexity.

Forget about those who don't get it.

Just enjoy this masterpiece.

It's an amazing film, also my favourite Marilyn Monroe feature. I would loved to have been on set with so much talent - director, actors, screenwriter - as well as the last complete film for two of the actors.

I might add that I enjoy some actions films too ...
