The Band 'The Misfits'

this is a fact I just learned.

This movie inspired the name for the horror punk band "The Misfits". The lead singer and founder of the band, Glenn Danzig was very itnerested with Monroe's death and the rumours surrounding it, so he found it fit to name his band after her last film.

Damn that is weird...I am listening to them right now.

reply

me too....wolf's blood.

reply

I've been into the band for a while, but I only just found about the movie.

reply

Yup, they also have a song called "Who Killed Marilyn?".

"...Feel my aura."
"I don't think I'm allowed to."

reply

ive been into the misfits for so long but i just recently saw this movie and it adds this whole new level to their music. they try to come off as dark and satanic but i think them naming themselves after a marylin monroe movie is just a testament to the irony of the band and their music.

reply

the chili peppers do a goof on them in the video for dani california

reply

i highly doubt it was a goof becuase red hot chili peppers have said that one of their crucial influences was the misfits.probly just advertisment on one of their favorite bands

reply

It wasn't a goof on them, more of a tribute.

reply

The Misfits don't try to be Satanic, but Danzig intended to pull the band in that direction, thus causing their break-up. They do try to come off as gory though (specifically on the last Danzig-era album, Earth A.D./Wolfblood)

A laugh can be a very powerful thing. Why, sometimes in life, it's the only weapon we have.

Nope, "Who Killed Marylin?" is a Misfits song.

Nope, the only thing "Misfits" about that song is it was created by Glenn Danzig. None of the other Misfits (except maybe Doyle, depending on who you ask) are featured on the recording.

The song was recorded toward the end of the Misfits' Danzig-era and by that point his focus was on Samhain. If anything, this should be considered a Samhain track and not Misfits.

the movie is alot better than the band....I am so sick of the misfits...they are the most cliche punk band that all the punks must like....I think they are also overrated....and by the way..I am watching the "MOVIE" right now.....

reply

You don't HAVE to hate something just because it's popular, it doesn't make you any less counterculture

reply

I agree with you mellifluos...
and im hearing hybrid moments at the same time im watchin the movie...is that enough for you kimpunkrock?!?!

reply

please...just go play in traffic.

reply

first you dont know much about punk.second they inspired a alot of very popular metal bands and they were the sh*t and the band to play with back then.they played with blackflag, the ramones, bad brains, reagan youth and alot more very good hardcore punk bands.so before you say theyre overrated think again cause there wouldnt be alot of kind of music today.

reply

I hope u are not even refering to me...I been in the punk and hardcore scene since 1986....I have seen more bands than I can remember and have been to more shows than I can even count...only posers think the misfits 'rule'..and who cares about "popular" metal bands...u must be a poser....

The Truth is out there.

reply

i bet you dont even know who the cro mags or jerrys kids are ?

reply

they never got to play with the ramones, if you don't believe me, look it up...

reply

cliche punk band? wtf........ how is horror punk cliche? especially when they started in 77'? u must be retarded.

reply

Because the current "incarnation" of the band is not the misfits. The misfits without danzig is a rediculous concept.
Cheers

reply

@ xLoneWolfx

jerry only founded the band so its his band.. danzig was just a singer in the band if you dont believe me look it up.. and by the way todays misfits is still awsome with dez cadena and robo!

Who cares? They were just a gimmick band and sucked. The only reason any teenagers listened to them was to annoy their parents because of the shock value.

reply

Then you are f'in idiot, because Misfits was something of the beste that came from 70s punk.
