Tried to watch this last night

Is there a secret to watching this film? Sorry, but I just didn't enjoy it and I stopped watching halfway through. There's too much talking, all they do is sit around and talk nonstop. The performances are good, and there is some excellent writing, but there doesn't seem to be any point to any of it. Gable looks like he wants to be a hundred miles away.

I must say Eli Wallach is the best actor of the bunch, he really knows his way around a set and how to interact with the other characters using the dialogue he's given. In the dance scene, for example, you can almost feel his urge to conquer Roslyn. Eh, it wasn't enough to keep me watching.

By now you might have watched the whole thing? There's no secret to it, just accept that there's a lot of dialogue and little action. Sure it's painful. But it's an off-beat drama.
If you want a good John Huston film with more action, try Key Largo and/or The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.

LOL, Key Largo is set-bound and is also mainly dialogue-powered.

How about The African Queen or The Man Who Would be King?
