One thing that was disturbing about Guido's flying comment

After Guido brought his biplane back to ground, he was talking to Gable about how he nearly flew into a mountain. This was filmed in Nevada... perhaps some of you may recall that Gable's third wife, Carole Lombard, died in a horrible plane crash in Nevada in January of 1942, when the plane she was on crashed into a mountain just outside of Las Vegas.

This, to me anyway, makes some of Gable's lines in the movie more poignant, such as:

'They changed it all around and smeared it in blood.'
'I've got to find another way to be alive, now.'
'Honey, nothing can live unless something dies.'

There is also the scene with Perce in the phone booth telling his mother "My face is fine" "You would too recognize me Ma". Clift had been in a car accident that greatly altered his looks. Personally, I think it was a bit cheap and sensationalistic of Miller to include these lines. There is also the use of well known photos of Monroe to blur the line between her and Roslyn.
