One of the Best Acted Movies I've Ever Seen

I just saw this for the first time, and there were many spectacular things about it.

But what incredible acting from everyone involved! It was one of those movies that you wished you could have given EVERYONE an Academy Award.

Even in such a magnificent field, I think Schell still manages to stand out with a particularly incredible performance. But Tracy, Lancaster, Clift, Garland, Dietrich, and Widmark were also all uniformly excellent.

Kudos to everyone involved.

I agree the acting is very strong from top to bottom. Monty Clift stood out to me but it really would have been hard deciding who NOT to give award nominations to. They were all worthy of recognition.

Completely agree.

The near three hour running time just flies by thanks to the great performances and engaging script.

I thought all the main players were very good, but Schell in particular was outstanding, earning a well deserved Oscar.
