Great Movie, Great Acting

Hi Everybody,

I think this was a great movie. They just don't make 'em like this anymore. Wonderful acting by all the actors, with maybe the exception of Marlene Dietrich (I never thought much of her as an actress). Maximilian Schell and Abby Mann both deserved their Oscars, for sure. Schell was amazing. I know he was in competition with Spence that year, and boy was Schell an ass-kicker! He totally made the legendary Spencer Tracy disappear off the screen, though Spence's performance was far from shabby itself. I think, for sure, Monty should've won for Best Supporting Actor. His part was very short, but his impact on this movie is huge. Burt Lancaster and Judy Garland were also very good in their roles, and I thought Richard Widmark was too, though he seems to be glossed over when people talk about this movie's acting performances. Rarely can you find a movie with this caliber of performers, particularly now a-days when we have...who do we have now? Ashton Kutcher?

My favorite courtroom drama of all time.

Agree completely. This is one to teach acting classes with. I always slammed movies like The Searchers for ham-fisted line readings, but I could never quite articulate what I really wanted in a movie. Until I saw this movie. All around, this is ACTING.

Downwards is the only way forwards.
